05. Boogie Nights, 1997
04. Punch-Drunk Love, 2002
03. Almost Famous, 2000
02. 25th Hour, 2002
01. The Big Lebowski, 1998
Honorable mention of the one PSH movie I haven't seen but want to see: Empire Falls, 2005
i'd put David Mamet's "State and Main" over most of these... i'm a sucker for those movie-within-a-movie hollywood satires
ReplyDeleteA solid list showing the breadth of PSH's work, and with TBL correctly positioned at the top. I agree with Peter, though, about State and Main, which I would put in the top 5, if not the top 3. I would also find space for Syncedoche NY and Before the Devil KNows You're Dead. I could lose (7), (9) and (10) for the cause. CM
ReplyDeleteDont forget about Doubt...he was utterly brilliant
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely agree. Doubt was the reason I posted this list in the first place. My accidental omission. You have a good eye. I had reviewed Doubt then added this about PSH's best movies as a companion piece. Here's the review:
