Leonardo DiCaprio, it turns out upon reflection, has been in a pretty impressive batch of movies. Nobody is better at playing the white-collar, self-made-man of the 1950s and '60s. He's come a long way from Roseanne and Growing Pains and is even set to play Teddy Roosevelt.
My favorite DiCaprio movies are:
13. The Man in the Iron Mask (1998)
12. The Aviator (2004)
11. Romeo + Juliet (1996)
10. Revolutionary Road (2008)
09. What's Eating Gilbert Grape (1993)
08. This Boy's Life (1993)
07. The Basketball Diaries (1995)
06. Titanic (1997)
05. Celebrity (1998)
04. Catch Me If You Can (2002)
03. The Departed (2006)
02. The Beach (2000)
01. Blood Diamond (2006)
Interestingly enough, I am of the opinion that The Beach and Blood Diamond are 2 of his worst movies. The Beach was a GREAT book but it was butchered beyond recognition in film. Blood Diamond just felt too Hollywoodish and predictable throughout. I think my top 6 would look something like this...
ReplyDelete1) Catch Me If You Can
2) The Basketball Diaries
3) What's Eating Gilbert Grape
4) The Departed
5) The Aviator
6) Titanic
We both do agree that The Man in the Iron Mask would rank dead last :)
I figured The Beach and Blood Diamond would be fairly controversial top picks, but both of them really hit me hard when I saw them (I'm admittedly a sucker for human-rights-abuses-in-Africa adventure stories and ones about lost islands.
ReplyDeletei would go:
ReplyDeletecatch me if you can
the departed
gilbert grape
this boys life....could be #1.....great film, although deniro is more classic....
the beach
titanic
Interesting that nobody but me loves Blood Diamond.
ReplyDeleteI pretty much agree with the first commenter's opinions and his top 6. I might slide The Aviator to 3, Departed to 4 and Grape to 5. Diamond was pretty weak and no movie of his has pissed me off more than The Beach. A complete butchery of the book.
ReplyDeleteAgreed that the book version of The Beach was butchered. But what the book didn't have was the beautiful scenery that reminded me of the time I spent enjoying my tript o Thailand.
